High School Roundup: Saratoga tops Colonie in boys' soccer sectionals

In a first round Section II Class AA boys’ soccer game, Saratoga defeated Colonie 6-1. Aidan Rice had two goals and three assists, Evan Farr had three goals, Ryan Postlethwait had a goal and an assist, and Ben Crandall contributed an assist for Saratoga. Jaden To scored the lone goal for Colonie. 
In a Class C game, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons defeated Bolton-Warrensburg 4-0. Wil Lawson scored three goals, Connor Barber scored a goal and contributed an assist, and Nicholas Gosh and Joseph Matala each added an assist for the Knights.

Also in Class C, Greenwich defeated Canajoharie 8-2. AJ Rymph scored a goal, Charlie Gartner had three goals and an assist; Liam Kelleher and Connor Disxon both had a goal and an assist; and AJ Rymph, Bill Bink and Hunter Dixon each scored a goal. Raffaele Wyss and Christian O’Brien each contributed an assist for the Witches.

The goals for Canajoharie were scored by Walfre Vasquez and Jared Bentz. Jacob Nowalk contributed an assist for Canajoharie. 

Stillwater beat Schoharie 5-0. Grant Baker had two goals, Jake Zdonick and Scott Travis each scored a goal, Harry Rubinstein had a goal and an assist, and Jack Rubinstein added an assist for Stillwater. 

Mayfield beat Mekeel Christian Academy 6-0. Dan Leach scored a goal and had two assists, and Dylan Bumpus added a goal and an assist.Garret Delaney, Josh Wasson, Colby Brandow and Trek Bjelica had the other goals for the winners , while Anthony Yuret added an assist.

In a Class D game, Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville defeated Loudonville Christian 2-0. Jack Brundage scored both goals for OESJ and Mason Snell contributed an assist. OESJ improves to 15-2-0 overall. 

Girls’ soccer

In a Section II Class B game, Tamarac defeated Cohoes 4-1. Isabella Bisceglia scored two goals and contributed an assist, Jenna Hunt and Shannon Ryan each scored a goal, while Abby Buckley, Sophie Champagne and Haley Honsigner each contributed an assist for Tamarac. Quin Hytko scored the goal for Cohoes.

Mechanicville defeated Albany Academy 1-0. Jada Brown had the goal for the Red Raiders with an assist from Michalena DePasquale. Andrea Mullen had 12 saves for Albany Academy. 

Schalmont beat Corinth 15-0. Isabella Amoroso had three goals and two assists; Sofia Cassano had two goals and two assists; Davia Rossi had a goal and two assists; Ashley Cirilla and Chloe Schaffer scored two goals; Payton Graber, Alison Waldron, and Gianna Viscusi each scored a goal for Schalmont. Isabella Almodovar had three assists, Simone Cassano had two assists. Madison Brynes, Payton Graber, and Gabriella Amoroso each had an assist.    

In a Class C game, Voorheesville defeated Hudson Falls 5-0. Rebecca Gregg scored two goals, while Jayden Kelley, Amanda Gillenwalters and Morgan Keith each had one. Gillenwalters, Keith, Emma Farrell and Megan Romansky each contributed an assist.

Boys’ volleyball

In a Suburban Council matchup, Shenendehowa defeated Niskayuna 25-10, 25-13, 25-15. Joe Meter had six aces, and Mike Cardon and Rohan Gangaraju each contributed 15 assists for Shen. Nick Budka had a block, an ace and an assist; Jack Grossman had one kill and two blocks; and Bryce Berkof had one kill and two blocks for Niskayuna.

Colonie defeated Saratoga Springs 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-15. Jon Fuller had 14 kills, three aces, 11 digs and four blocks; Rob Witzki had nine kills and seven blocks; and Tyler Cotalfamo had 32 assists and seven digs for Colonie. Garrett Myers had nine kills, five blocks, and Quinn Montgomery had 11 assists for Saratoga.  

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Bethlehem, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18. Jake Baker had 12 kills, an ace  and a block; Derek Haughry had 26 assists, three kills, one ace and one block; and Alex Hromada had seven kills and one ace for the Spartans. Andrew Baker had 20 assists for Bethlehem. Burnt Hills improves to 13-1 in the Suburban Council and 16-2 overall, while Bethlehem falls to 12-3 in the league and 16-4 overall.

Girls’ volleyball 

In a Colonial Council matchup, Voorheesville defeated Cohoes 25-8, 25-8, 25-15. Marie Julian had nine kills, five points and two aces; Victoria Konicki had seven kills, nine points, four aces and a block; and Katy Bablin had 15 assists, three kills, 13 points, and six aces for Voorheesville. 

Field hockey

In a Section II Class AA quarterfinal matchup, Niskayuna defeated Shaker 2-1. Jane Reffelt tallied a goal and an assist for the Silver Warriors. Claire Skumurski scored the other goal, and Annabelle Conover had an assist. Olivia Rowley scored the lone goal for Shaker. 

In another Class A quarterfinal, Saratoga defeated Columbia 6-0. Kylie Folts scored two goals, Lindsey Frank had a goal and two assists, Hailey Waghorn had a goal and an assist, Olivia Vukelic and Molly Russell each scored one goal, and Hunter Yourch contributed an assist.  

Football

In a crossover game, Mohonasen beat Lansingburgh 42-12. Alek Britten had five carries for 68 yards and three touchdowns, and Jared Stillson had six carries for 90 yards and a touchdown.
