High schools: Ballston Spa, Queensbury reach final

Mike Robyck scored, lifting Ballston Spa to a 1-0 victory over Albany Academy in the Section II Class A boys' soccer tournament semifinals at Colonie High School.

Liam O’ Connell assisted on the goal.

The Scotties will face Queensbury in Saturday’s championship game at 4 p.m. The Spartans defeated South Glens Falls 3-0. Teddy Borgos and Drew Crawford each had a goal and an assist for Queensbury. Aidan Jordi-Donnelly also scored.

Field Hockey 
In the Section II Class C semifinals,  Johnstown defeated Schuylerville 4-0. 

Taryn Ringer had two goals and an assist, and Sarah Pratt and Kalena Eaton each scored a goal for Johnstown (18-0). 

Johnstown will face Hoosick Falls, which  defeated Warrensburg 4-1, in the title game. Lilian Hickey and Lyric Kriner each had a goal and an assist for Hoosick Falls.

Emma McCart and Madelyn Kasulinous also scored for Hoosick Falls.

The championship game is at 4 p.m Saturday at Gloversville High School.

Girls’ Volleyball 
In Section II Class C tournament first-round action, Albany Academy beat Loudonville Christian 25-14, 25-10, 17-25, 26-24. Kyle McRoberts had 17 assists, eight aces, two kills, Hailela Harrison had five aces  and five kills. Albany Academy will face Stillwater on Friday. 

Tamarac defeated Hudson 25-13, 25-19, 25-23. Francesca DiScanio had 10 service points, Giuliana DiCarlo had nine digs and 10 assists and Gabriella Cellucci had seven digs, six kills, and seven service points for Tamarac. 

Canajoharie/Fort Plain defeated Mechanicville 25-19, 25-20, 25-12. Sarah Paradiso had 11 service points, 20 assists, Sydney Shepard had 10 kills, Lauren Weinberger collected 12 service points, and Bella Page had 11 service points for Canajoharie/Fort Plain.

Kaitlin Coleman had 13 service points, nine assists, and Adriana Patenaude had 10 digs for Mechanicville.

Canajohaire/Fort Plain advances to face Voorheesville on Friday. 

In Class D, Middleburgh defeated Germantown 25-12, 25-21, 25-18. Saige Burton had 11 kills, and Anna Hooper had 20 service points, seven aces and 11 assists for Middleburgh. 

Duanesburg defeated Fort Edward 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20. Victoria Passonno had 17 service points, four aces, nine kills and eight blocks for Duanesburg.

Annabelle Riesseler added had 11 service points, five aces and six kills and Sophia Loukides had seven service points and seven kills.

Caitlin Mahoney had 19 service points and five digs, Gaby Thomas had 10 kills, six blocks and Mady Thomas had 12 service points and five kills for Fort Edward. 

Mekeel Christian Academy defeated Maple Hill 25-23, 25-20, 25-19. Sophia Armao had 17 service points, 11 aces, and 21 assists, Kylie Islip had 15 service points, Casey Simmons had 12 service points, Keely Lagon had eight service points, 10 kills and Maddy Spawn had seven service points and three aces for Mekeel.

John Chest and Jared Stillson each scored two touchdowns, and Keegan Jarvis caught a 73-yeard touchdown pass from Alec Britton as Mohonasen defeated Albany 41-7 in a crossover game.

Kevin York ran for 108 yards on 15 carries for the Mighty Warriors, and Stillson finished with 61 yards on 11 carries.

Mohonasen (4-5) led by just 21-14 after three quarters, but outscored the Falcons 26-0 in the fourth.
