High School Roundup: Schalmont advances in boys' soccer state tourney

Devin Renaud scored with 9:51 left in the first overtime Thursday, leading Schalmont to a 1-0 victory over Canton in the first round of the state Class B boys’ soccer tournament at SUNY Potsdam.
Schalmont goalie Ryan Taylor made four saves. Canton’s Jack Finnerty stopped 11 shots .
In Class C, Maple Hill’s season came to an end with a 1-0 loss to Madrid-Waddington.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
In the Section II Division I semifinals at Rensselaer High School , Bethlehem defeated Shaker in three sets, but was challenged: 25-23, 25-14, 25-23. Caleb Federman had 30 assists, Evan MacTavish had 10 kills, Jackson Howe added five aces, and Andrew Baker contributed five digs for Bethlehem.
The Eagles advance to the championship match against Colonie or Shenendehowa at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Rensselaer High.
