We all pay taxes, tariffs; Vote GOP
I just had to respond to David Childs’ letter protesting tariffs on some Chinese imports while lamenting a lowered corporate tax rate because, like most of us, I’m a sucker for irony.
The writer rightfully points out that a tariff is a tax that is ultimately paid by the consumer/taxpayer in the form of a higher price.
What the "tax the daylights out of corporations crowd" fails to understand is it’s the same consumer/taxpayers that ultimately pay those taxes as well in the form of elevated prices.
I do want to congratulate Mr. Childs on beginning to realize how it works, and I’m sure that after he gives it further thought he’ll also be voting with and for the Republican Party.

Bring integrity to our government
Think BIG; Bring Integrity to Government.
Bring integrity to our society, our communities and our interactions.
When did Americans become incapable of civil discourse?
Of discussin differences calmly and rationally?
Where does all of this hate come from?
Massacres. Bombings. Contentiuos ugly rhetoric.
Any group, it seems, can now be the target of hate. Republicans, Democrats, Jews, immigrants, gays, men, women, police officers can all be targeted.
We need to think for ourselves; discern reality based on the evidence; and take responsibility for our own action or inaction.
We need to think about what we truly value and what kind of country we want for our children and grandchildren.
We need to vote and think BIG.

Photo showed value of sports for girls
Anyone who has doubts about the competitive nature of girl's high school sports only has to look at Erica Miller's outstanding photo on page B6 in the Oct. 23 Daily Gazette.
Pictured are three very determined athletes competing for a soccer ball.
In this instance the goalkeeper appears to have won control after flinging herself on the ground to win this play.
Over the years watching my daughter and now my granddaughters compete has convinced me that participating in sports greatly help girls develop a sense of confidence that will serve them well in life.
