Down a couple goals after a dozen minutes, the Schalmont boys’ soccer team didn’t quit.
Instead, the Sabres found a way to force overtime — and then advanced into next weekend’s Class B state semifinals via penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie Saturday with Peru at Plattsburgh High School.
Ryan Edwards scored both goals in regulation for Schalmont, the first midway through the first half off a corner kick from Matt Horwedel and the second off a free kick midway through the second half.
Schalmont outdid Peru 4-3 in penalty kicks with Edwards, Horwedel, Andrew Kessler and Jared Smith connecting for the Sabres.
Ryan Taylor made seven saves in net for Schalmont.
Schalmont will play Section III’s Westhill in the state semifinals.
In a Class AA state quarterfinal, CBA fell 1-0 to Baldwinsville at Liverpool High School on an own goal in the 16th minute.
Queensbury used a last-minute goal from Brendan Duffy to win 2-1 against Fulton in the Class A state quarterfinals. Duffy scored with 17 seconds to go in regulation. Alex Roca also scored for Queensbury.
Fort Ann lost 2-0 to Mount Academy in the Class D state quarterfinals.
Saratoga Springs lost 2-0 to Mamaroneck in the Class A state quarterfinals. Brigid Knowles and Elizabeth Brissette each scored for Mamaroneck.
In the Class B state quarterfinals, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake fell 1-0 to Lakeland, a program that has won state titles in each of the last nine years. Julianna Cappello scored for Lakeland.
Hoosick Falls won 1-0 in its Class C state quarterfinal against Pawling. Ayla Fauler scored the game-winning goal.
In the Section II Class D championship game, Warrensburg topped Hoosic Valley 28-6.
Evan MacDuff had a pair of touchdown runs for Warrensburg, while Jesse Griffin and Dylan Winchell also had scoring runs in victory.
Warrensburg led 22-0 at halftime.
