It's on to another week of network food competition for SUNY Schenectady graduate and adjunct professor Dan Raymond.
Raymond advanced to the next round on the Food Network’s “Holiday Baking Championship” for a chance to win $25,000 and the title of Holiday Baking Champion, Nine bakers started the competition Monday night, putting their skills to the test in holiday-themed challenges centered on cookies, pies and other desserts.
In the Season Five premiere, competitors made pumpkin spice creations and yule log mashups.

At the end of the show, host Jesse Palmer, a former NFL quarterback, summarized the judges' thoughts, singling out one outstanding baker, and then adding, "There were a few other mashups that were inspired enough to be safe." The first name he mentioned was "Dan." So the owner of Zachary's Pastry Shoppe in East Greenbush will be back on next Monday's show with the hopes of advancing. Eliminated from the competition Monday was Jamie Decena of Chula Vista, Calif.
