TROY — Schalmont graduate Sydnee Metzold, a sophomore forward on the Hudson Valley Community College women’s soccer team, was announced Thursday as this year’s Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and the NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Year.
Metzold led HVCC in goals with 28 and assists with 17. Metzold tied HVCC’s program record for goals in a season, and her 73 points are a program-best total.
“It is a great honor for Hudson Valley and our women’s soccer program to have Sydnee be awarded the Region 3 Player of the Year and the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year awards,” HVCC head coach Jay Pokines said in a release from the school’s athletic department. “Winning both awards speak volumes about our program and this year’s team. One player may earn the award, but it takes the team to give her the opportunities to become recognized by the conference and Region 3 coaches.”
Metzold, a Rotterdam native, accumulated 40 goals and 26 assists in two seasons at HVCC.
Metzold was also an all-conference selection, along with teammates Serena Gates, Bailey Dunn and Brooke Clough. Gates is a Lansingburgh graduate, while Clough is a Shaker graduate. Dunn is from Saugerties.
HVCC finished at 11-3-1 on the season.
