SCHENECTADY -- A raid on a Becker Street apartment on Tuesday netted about 80 pounds of marijuana, $20,000 in cash, an illegal handgun and two arrests.

The Schenectady County Sheriff's Office's narcotics unit executed a search warrant at a second-floor apartment at 1567 Becker St. and recovered what deputies determined was "high grade," prepackaged marijuana, as well as the cash and a loaded 40 caliber Glock handgun with an extended magazine, according to the sheriff's office.

Arrested during the raid were Jose Origel, 41, of Newman, California; and Kern Carr, 35, of Duane Avenue, Schenectady, according to the sheriff's office.

Both were charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. They were arraigned and sent to Schenectady County Jail without bail, deputies said.

The investigation was ongoing as of Wednesday, and additional charges were expected, according to the press release.
