LOUDONVILLE — Jalen Pickett’s career for the Siena College men’s college basketball team is off to a fast start.

The freshman point guard is the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, and his play hasn’t slowed this week. In Siena’s 94-86 loss Wednesday at Hofstra, Pickett scored 27 points and dished 13 assists.

Before the Saints (2-5) take on Harvard (4-3) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Times Union Center, here are 10 numbers to know about Pickett’s play.

(National rankings/comparisons are through Wednesday’s games.)

119

Total points scored for Pickett through Siena’s first seven games. That has Pickett on track to shatter former Siena player Nico Clareth’s program freshman scoring record of 447 points. Assuming Pickett plays in each game for Siena, the freshman is on track to score 544 points through the games Siena is guaranteed to play this season.

52.7

Percentage of Siena’s total assists this season Pickett has recorded.

36.1

Pickett’s per-game minutes average, which leads the Saints. In per-game statistics, Pickett also leads Siena in points (17.0), assists (7.0), steals (2.3) and blocks (1.0).

24.3

Pickett’s scoring average in the Saints’ last three games. Pickett scored 25 points against Lehigh, 21 against Colgate and 27 against Hofstra. During that three-game stretch, Pickett has made 59.6 percent of his shots from the field.

13

Pickett’s assists total from Wednesday’s loss at Hofstra. That was two away from former Siena player Marc Brown’s program record of 15 assists, which Brown recorded in 1990 against Army.

9

Players in the country averaging at least 15.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game this season, according to sports-reference.com’s database. Pickett is the only freshman among those nine players.

7

Total steals for Pickett in Siena’s loss against Colgate. Pickett was the first Siena player to record that many steals in a game since Clarence Jackson had seven steals against Loyola in January 2010. Siena’s single-game steals record belongs to Brian Bidlingmyer, who had 10 steals against Loyola in January 1994.

4

Games this season in which Pickett has had at least seven assists. No other Siena player has recorded that many assists in a single game this season. A single Saint only twice had that many assists in a game last season, as Roman Penn had an 11-assist and a seven-assist game during his season at Siena.

3.8

Pickett’s assist-to-turnover ratio. That ranks Pickett No. 8 among freshmen and No. 33 overall in the country, according to NCAA.com.

1

Games this season in which a player recorded at least 27 points and 13 assists. Per sports-reference.com, Pickett’s effort against Hofstra earlier this week is the only instance this season in which a player hit both those marks in the same game.
