ROTTERDAM -- Four hikers were rescued Tuesday night after getting lost in the Plotter Kill Preserve, police said.
The hikers, all in their early 20s, called dispatchers at about 5:12 p.m., saying they needed help. They entered the preserve at about 3:45 p.m., but failed to leave by sundown and couldn't get out on their own in the dark, police said.
Among those who responded were members of the Plotterkill Fire Department. Rescuers located the hikers and escorted them out of the preserve unharmed by 6:01 p.m., about 48 minutes after the initial call, police said.
