SARATOGA SPRINGS - A man was taken for medical evaluation Sunday evening after an initial report to police that he had a gun and was threatening to harm himself caused a large police response, police said.

The incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. on Curt Boulevard in the Geyser Crest sub-division, police said.

The initial call referenced a man inside the home threatening to harm himself with a gun. Arriving officers determined the man not to be in the home, but alone in a parked car in the driveway, police said.

Police prepared for all potential possibilities and called in the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office and state police to help secure the area, police said.

A negotiator then made contact with the man by cell phone and, after some conversation, the man exited the car on his own and was detained by police. A search of the car revealed no weapon, but officers did recover some shotgun ammunition from the car, police said.

The man was taken for medical care. No charges were filed and none are expected, police said Monday.
