Town extends deadline for senior tax break

CLIFTON PARK — The town of Clifton Park has extended the deadline for senior citizens who are applying for partial exemptions on their property taxes.

The board unanimously approved the resolution.

State Real Property Tax Law allows for some exemptions from property taxes for people over the age of 65.

The board extended the deadline past March 1 for qualified senior citizens in the event of illness of the applicant, or other factors, including the death illness or death of an immediate family member.

At the meeting, Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett said it was important to give seniors who are eligible for the exemptions as much time as possible to file for them.

“To have them lose out because they’re ill just isn’t fair,” Barrett said.
