Many benefits of legalizing marijuana
I’ve been reading opinions while we legalize marijuana. The main argument is the “stuff’s stronger when they were kids.” Good point. Better counterpoint: less smoke in their lungs.
There are only two negative externalities from all credible studies from legalized states: (1) more vehicle accidents and (2) the teachers’ union in Colorado concluded incidents of students bringing edibles to class. Studies on car accidents are hard because of the damage per accident. There are no other objective problems.
The health benefits alone outweigh the cons. Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara has introduced a bill for medical marijuana for autism. We would be only the third state in the country to have that. With the increasing rate of autism, this will be increasingly important. This is just one of many health issues marijuana could address.
Hemp’s great too; it’s impossible to get high on it and it is much stronger than any type of pulp from any tree. Even Henry Ford’s car was made from hemp. It’s easy to grow and could bring back farmers’ jobs.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has made a smart move, despite $75,000 in donations coming from the liquor industry. He’s positioning himself to be a strong pick for a potential attorney general in a Democratic presidential cabinet.
It’s a constitutional right. It’s what the Constitution’s written on. Dr. Martin Luther King once said, “You have the right to swing your fist until it touches my nose.” Any adult(s) have the right to do what they want, so long as there’s no lack of consent from a third party.
White supremacy comments offensive
Representative Steve King’s white supremacy views are offensive to a large portion of Americans. Those views are not only inconsistent with the Declaration of Independence, but also with the Biblical view that we are all children of God.
The falseness of his white supremacy belief is easily recognized, since people of color like President Obama, MLK Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, etc. are clearly not inferior to white people.
White supremacy ideas are not benign. I note that Nazi racism led to the death of millions of innocent people. White supremacy has also been used to justify slavery. The Iowans King represents are entitled to have him as their representative, but King has long deserved being censured by the House.
Life’s too short not to be kind to others
As the snow’s still here and life is taken too short. How the years go by and times change. And things are not the same. Whatever happened to people helping each other? Knowing your neighbor, knocking on a door saying hello? An act of kindness goes a long way, maybe even a life. No one knows anyone anymore. A little helping hand can go a long way.
