SCHENECTADY - A driver was taken into custody late Saturday after he ran a DWI checkpoint on Erie Boulevard and crashed into a state police SUV a short time later at the roundabout, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The incident happened at about 11:40 p.m. on Erie Boulevard as New York State Police led a DWI checkpoint on Erie, at Maxon Road Extension, and assisted by city police.

The driver attempted to evade the checkpoint, but state police caught up with him after a crash at the roundabout near Rivers Casino after a brief pursuit, authorities said. The driver was taken into custody by state police after a brief foot pursuit, according to information available at the scene.

Further details on the incident, including the identity of the driver and any charges filed were not immediately available from state police.

The state police arrest blotter, however, identified a driver arrested at 11:47 p.m. on Front Street as Miguel J. Jackson, 31, of Schenectady. Jackson was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

The checkpoint appeared to be part of a statewide DWI enforcement campaign for Super Bowl weekend.
