ALBANY - Approaching rain and cooler temperatures are expected to bring the threat of freezing rain to the area this evening and overnight, the National Weather Service said.

The service place the region under a winter weather advisory as a result, starting at 5 p.m.  Wednesday and running to 7 a.m. Thursday. It's to run until 10 a.m. in the northern and western parts of the region.

A mix of rain and freezing rain is expected, according to the advisory. Total ice accumulations of a glaze, up to a tenth of an inch are expected, the service said.

The service issued a map on its Facebook page Wednesday indicating less than 0.10 inches of ice expected across much of Schenectady and Schoharie counties, as well as southern Saratoga County. Higher amounts were expected across central and northern Saratoga County, along with Fulton and Montgomery counties.

Drivers should plan on icy roads and sidewalks, drive carefully and allow extra time, the service said.
