A Rotterdam man's attempt to have his computer serviced resulted in his arrest this week on charges related to child pornography, child sexual abuse and illegal weapon possession, according to the Rotterdam Police Department.

Chandler B. Whittaker, 23, of 107 Nicholas Court, has been charged with one count of first-degree sexual abuse; five counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, according to police. He was also charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijiuana, both misdemeanors, police said.

Police launched an investigation after an employee at Computer Repair and Technologis Inc. on Altamont Avenue found questionable images on a computer on Wednesday and called police, according to the police report.

Investigators determined the computer contained more than 100 images containing child pornography and a video of Whittaker having sexual contact with an 8-year-old girl, police said.

A subsequent search of Whittaker’s residence revealed an illegally modified AR 15 rifle, several illegal ammunition magazines, an electronic stun gun, two pairs of metal knuckles and 30.6 grams of marijuana, police said.

Whittaker was arraigned and sent to the Schenectady County Jail on $40,000 cash bail or  $80,000 bond.

The investigation was continuing Friday and further charges are possible, police said.

Police are encouraging parents who believe their child may have been subjected to inappropriate contact by Whittaker call Rotterdam detectives at 518-355-7397.
