School basketball: Niskayuna girls beat Columbia in Section II play

Olivia Olsen scored 29 points, and Niskayuna avenged a Section II tournament loss to Columbia from a year ago with a 60-54 Class AA win Friday night.

Tyra O’Meally-Turnbull backed Olsen with 15 points. Lauren Obermayer paced Columbia with 23 points, and Lauren Filien contributed 12.

Ava LaClair scored 16 points, and Julia Harvey had 15 to lead Bethlehem past Catholic Central 61-37 in another Class AA game. Sarah Mattfeld topped the Crusaders with 14 points.

Bethlehem plays No. 2 Albany, and Niskayuna meets No. 1 Shenendehowa, in quarterfinals Thursday.

Carlie Rzeszotarski scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half when Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake built a 35-18 lead, and the Spartans held off on for a 51-49 Class A first-round win over Scotia-Glenville. Callie Chevalier and Mary Kate Lescault both had 10 points for Burnt Hills. Mikayla Mitchell notched 20 for Scotia-Glenville, 12 coming in the second half, and Asia Winney added 10.

Samantha DeVito fired in 16 points, Sierra Delaney clicked for 12 and Ballston Spa eliminated South Glens Falls 59-34. The Scotties took control with a 21-8 run in the second quarter. Sydney Hart led the Bulldogs with 11 points.

Kendra Lavery generated 31 points, and Harmony Philo’s 20 included a 9-for-10 free throw performance that was part of Gloversville’s 
61-42 win over Mohonasen. Bre Lott scored 20 points for the Mighty Warriors.

Troy overcame a two-point halftime deficit to beat Emma Willard 45-37. Jakaiya Dewer paced Troy with 15 points. Molly Zahnleuter had 13, and Khairat Raji netted 12 for the Jesters.

Shelby Caprood led four Argyle double-digit scorers with 15 points, and the Scots beat Loudonville Christian 64-32 in a Class D first-round matchup. Genevieve Swanson scored 21 points for Loudonville Christian.

Germantown got 19 points from Riley Gibbons  a 51-22 victory over Northville. Brianna Bace had 12 points for the Falcons.

Troy Butler scored 15 points to lead a balanced Fort Plain effort as the Hilltoppers beat Galway 62-57 in a Section II Class C play-in game.

Ethan Reese had 13 points, and Jaxson Yacowenia produced 11 for the Hilltoppers. Mike Sowle scored 20 for the Eagles, Carter Scribner had 14 and Christian Hines added 10.

Danny McMahon scored 17 points, and Jon Fraser and Don Harder both hit for 12 as Hadley-Luzerne defeated Duanesburg 59-44. Jacob Stahl scored 15 for Duanesburg.

Salah Harris put in 15 points, and Rensselaer clipped Berne-Knox-Westerlo 54-52. Zeke Pulliam piled up 33 points for the Bulldogs. Adam Esposito added 13.

Nick Murphy’s 16 points led a trio of double-digit Argyle scorers as the Scots ended Saratoga Central Catholic’s season 51-44. Jordan Catone sparked the Saints with 21 points including five 3s.

Riley Maddison scored 18 points, Johnathan Beagle scored 14, and Hudson Falls edged Cohoes 58-56 in a Class B play-in contest. Jonathan LaSure and Troy Snyder scored 18 points apiece for the Tigers.

Greenville got 32 points from Damien Fiducia in a 71-51 win over Broadalbin-Perth. Alexander DiCaterino had 18 for the Patriots.
