Police: Pedestrian seriously injured in Colonie crash

COLONIE -- A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car Thursday morning, police said.

The pedestrian, identified as Gerald J. Buchanan, 65, of Troy, suffered what police described as a serious head injury and was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

The incident happened at about 7:45 a.m. at the corner of Wolf and Sand Creek roads, police said.

Buchanan was crossing Wolf Road in the crosswalk headed west when he was struck by a car turning north onto Wolf Road from Sand Creek Road, police said.

The driver of the car was identified as Kathy J. Cioppa, 58, of Colonie. She was not injured and stopped immediately after the crash, police said.

There is no indication that speed, alcohol or drugs were contributing factors, police said. The crash remained under  investigation.
