WATERFORD - A Waterford man has been arrested on child rape and other charges, state police said.

Jessie R. Mayeaux, Jr., 37, of Waterford, was charged Monday with third-degree rape, third-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor, felonies.

Police began investigating after they received a complaint from the parents of the victim. Mayeaux had been having sexual contact with their teenage child, they told police, troopers said.

Investigators confirmed the contact and determined Mayeaux had exchanged indecent content with the victim via text message, troopers said.

Mayeaux was arraigned in Town of Halfmoon court and ordered held on $15,000 bail.

State police in Clifton Park and Brunswick investigated with assistance from the Waterford Police Department.
