COLONIE - An Albany County corrections officer raped an inmate three times this month and has been arrested, the Albany County Sheriff's Office said.
Michael A. Snyder, Sr., 59, of Rensselaerville, was arrested Tuesday and charged with three counts each of third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act, felonies. Snyder worked 19 years with the sheriff's office.
Snyder was also charged with three counts of official misconduct and one count of second-degree sexual abuse, misdemeanors.
The investigation began Saturday when a female inmate housed at the Albany County Correctional Facility reported that she was sexually assaulted by a male corrections officer, officials said.
The victim reported she had sexual contact with the officer on three occasions over the previous two weeks. Investigators responded and secured evidence that was then turned over to the state police crime lab for analysis, officials said.
Investigators then identified Snyder and he was arrested Tuesday, officials said.
Snyder was being held Tuesday pending arraignment in Colonie Town Court, expected later Tuesday.
