Feds: Seven indicted on Schenectady-based drug charges

Feds: Seven indicted on Schenectady-based drug charges

All seven are now in custody, officials say

ALBANY - Seven people - six from Schenectady - have been arrested on federal charges they distributed drugs in the city in unrelated cases, federal prosecutors said.

Six of the men were arrested Tuesday, while the seventh was arrested earlier. All seven face federal drug indictments, U.S. Attorneys officials said.

Prosecutors identified the seven charged and their charges as:

  • Robert Atkins, 36, of Schenectady, conspiracy to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine
  • Rhamel Pate, 37, of Schenectady, conspiracy to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine
  • Lasun Blount, 28, of Albany, distribution of crack cocaine
  • Darryl Carr, 39, of Schenectady, distribution of crack cocaine, possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Raymel Diaz, 24, of Schenectady, distribution of crack cocaine
  • Darryl Flannagan, 29, of Schenectady, distribution of heroin
  • Trevon Brunson, 21, of Schenectady, distribution of heroin

Each of the defendants, except Brunson, was arraigned on the charges Tuesday. Brunson is in state custody on other charges and is to be arraigned in federal court later.

The cases were investigated by the FBI and its Capital District Safe Streets Gang Task Force, with assistance from the state police, the Schenectady Police Department, Schenectady County Sheriff's Office, Schenectady County District Attorney's Office, the IRS, the Albany County Sheriff's Office, Albany County District Attorney's Office, Albany Police Department, state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Warren County Sheriff's Office and the Troy Police Department. 

The firearms charge against Carr was investigated by the Schenectady County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert A. Sharpe, Michael Barnett, Emily Powers and Joshua Rosenthal.
