FULTON COUNTY - A Fulton County man stole nearly $80,000 in welfare benefits, Fulton County sheriff's officials said.

Edward J. Ausfeld, 49, of 123 Vandenburgh Point Road, in Mayfield, was charged last week with one count each of second-degree grand larceny, second-degree welfare fraud and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, all felonies.

Ausfield is accused of making multiple false Medicaid applications to the Fulton County Department of Social Services from May 2016 to May 2018, sheriff's officials said.

In all, he took $79,932.53 he wasn't entitled to, officials said.
