Cohoes' Madison VanDenburg is successfully through to the final 10 on ABC's singing competition "American Idol."
VanDenburg, 17, a Shaker High School student, advanced via fan voting following her performance on Sunday night's show when she sang "Fallin' " by Alicia Keys.
The results were revealed on Monday night's show. After host Ryan Seacrest informed VanDenburg that she had advanced, it was her turn to sing again, and, confidence buoyed, she delivered a soaring version of Lady Gaga's "You and I."
The night before, judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie all gushed over VanDenburg's vocals. "Well, that is how you put yourself in contention," said Bryan after VanDenburg's version of the Keys tune. "You killed it," added Richie, which opened the door for fan votes to pour in from Sunday night through to Monday morning.
VanDenburg is a student at Modern Day Music in Clifton Park, where she befriended Moriah Formica, who has since graduated from Shaker. Formica made a name for herself on the national singing competition "The Voice."
Eliminated from the competition Monday were Eddie Island, Evelyn Cormier, Riley Thompson and Ashley Hess.
The show continues next Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ABC with another live round that will help determine the final 8.
