ALBANY — Connor McCaffery, son of former Siena College men’s basketball head coach Fran McCaffery, will play this year for the Albany Dutchmen of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.
The Dutchmen announced Connor McCaffery, a two-sport college athlete at Iowa in baseball and basketball, will play for them in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon. A 6-foot-6 redshirt freshman, Connor McCaffery played basketball for his father this season, and joined the school’s baseball team when Iowa’s run in the NCAA tournament concluded last month.
“Connor is someone that we feel has the ability to stand out after getting quality reps in the second half of their season following an outstanding basketball season for the Hawkeyes,” Albany head coach Nick Davey said in the Dutchmen’s release “He has the ability to play at the next level, and we’re excited for our fans to have the chance to watch him develop into the prospect many think he can be.”
Fran McCaffery coached Siena from 2005 to 2010 and led the Saints to three appearances in the NCAA tournament. In five seasons with Fran McCaffery leading it, Siena won at least 20 games on four occasions.
The Dutchmen start play May 31.
