SARATOGA SPRINGS — Nicholas McPartland will begin his duties as the new director of physical education, athletics and health for the Saratoga Springs City School District on July 1.

McPartland, who previously held administrative and teaching roles at several Section II schools, was approved for his newest post by the Saratoga Springs Board of Education of Education March 28. McPartland is replacing Peter Sheehan, who retired March 21 as Saratoga Springs' athletic director after serving in that capacity since April of 2007.

“We are very excited to welcome Mr. McPartland to Saratoga Springs and look forward to the leadership he will provide working directly with our physical education and health teachers, coaches and student-athletes,” Saratoga Springs Superintendent Michael Patton said in a press release. “He has a strong background in leading physical education and health curriculum and instructional initiatives. He brings a wealth of experience as a coach and has been very involved with Section II athletics. Mr. McPartland is looking forward to supporting all our students and becoming a Blue Streak in July."

McPartland has been the director of athletics, health and physical education at South Glens Falls since July 2016. He has also served as South Glens Falls’ senior class assistant principal since he started with that district. Before that, he was a health and physical education teacher at the Greenwich middle school and high school from 2014-2016, and a health and physical education teacher at the Hudson Falls middle school and high school from 2008-2014.

McPartland holds advanced certifications in educational leadership – including a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) and School Building Leader (SBL) from SUNY Plattsburgh, plus a master’s degree in teaching health education from SUNY Cortland, and a bachelor’s degree in physical education, also from SUNY Cortland.
