Scotia police say they are investigating a Rotterdam man’s near-drowning on the southeastern end of Collins Lake around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to that area to check on the welfare of a 36-year-old Rotterdam man who may have been under the influence of drugs while swimming in the lake, police said in a release.

Upon arrival, officers observed a woman, who was later identified as the man's mother, in the water with the unresponsive man screaming for help.

Officers entered the knee-deep water and brought the man to shore, where Scotia Fire Department paramedics performed CPR. The man was resuscitated and transported to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady for further treatment.
