SCHENECTADY - A Schenectady motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a car Wednesday evening in Schenectady, police said.

John R. Keenan III, 36, was taken to Ellis Hospital for injuries suffered in the crash, where he later died, police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey McCutcheon said.

The driver of the other vehicle was cited for failure to yield the right of way, McCutcheon said. Police identified that driver Thursday afternoon as Helen Macdonald, 79, of Schenectady.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Albany and Elbert streets as Keenan traveled westbound on Albany Street, McCutcheon said.

The car driven by Macdonald pulled out in front of Keenan and Keenan reacted and lost control of his bike, McCutcheon said. Keenan wore a helmet at the time of the crash, McCutcheon said.

Schenectady police continued Thursday to investigate the crash.
