The Shenendehowa girls’ track and field team followed up a first-place performance at its own invitational Friday with another win Wednesday at the Suburban Council championship meet at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.

Shenendehowa got victories from Rachel Sterle in the 200Erin Peters in the 100 hurdles, Jenny McLaughlin in the pole vault, and Chidalu Anameze in the discus. The Plainsmen scored 150 team points while runner-up Saratoga Springs totaled 97.

Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga prevailed in the 1,500 and 3,000 ahead of teammate Ella Kurto, and Chmiel helped the Blue Streaks take the 3,200 relay. Isabella Bruno of Guilderland won the long jump and triple jump. Kaleigh West of Niskayuna won the 100 and was part of the Silver Warriors’ triumphant 400 relay. Kate Scanlan of Guilderland won the 400 hurdles and was part of the Dutchmen’s first-place 1,600 relay.

The meet was marked by close finishes, with Sterle (26.03) edging Kristina Koes of Niskayuna (26.06) in the 200; Chmiel (10:00.41) clipping Kurto (10:00.83) in the 3,000; and Kathryn Tenney of Colonie (7:13.59) beating out Madeleine Hesler of Niskayuna (7:13.88) in the 2,000 steeplechase.

At the Foothills Council Championships at Johnstown’s Knox Field, Broadalbin-Perth won the boys’ title with 119 points to edge Queensbury’s 114, while Queensbury cruised to winning the girls’ title with 144 points.

In the boys’ championship meet, a trio of athletes stood out. Queensbury junior Nick Logan secured individual wins in each of the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, while two individual wins apiece were collected by Scotia-Glenville junior Josh Jeffes (400, long jump) and Hudson Falls senior Jaylen Pritchett (100, 200). Additionally, Pritchett helped lead Hudson Falls to wins in the 400 and 1,600 relays.

In its victory, the Queensbury girls’ team received a pair of individual wins from each of senior Andraya Warner-Davis and senior Morgan Willis, as Warner-Davis secured victories in the long jump and triple jump, and Willis won the shot put and discus throw. Also picking up multiple individual wins was Amsterdam senior Lauren Santiago who won the 200 and 400.
