Seeds, pairings and the schedule for the 23-team Section II boys' lacrosse tournament were released Friday.

The top seeds are Niskayuna (Class A), Ballston Spa (Class B), La Salle (Class C) and Schuylerville (Class D), and all of them but La Salle are defending champions. La Salle won its last area title in 2004.

Here are a few more things to know.

FOR STARTERS

All four classes will hold their quarterfinal games Saturday, semifinal games Tuesday and championship games Friday. The Class A and B finals will be held at Columbia High School in East Greenbush, and the Class C and D title games will be contested at Schuylerville High School. Niskayuna is the only top seed scheduled to play a quarterfinal game.

REMATCHES

Six of the seven quarterfinal games are rematches from the regular season. Earlier this spring Niskayuna beat Colonie (23-0), Saratoga Springs edged Shaker (7-6), Bethlehem topped Guilderland (11-5), Shenendehowa clipped CBA (11-8), Columbia defeated Troy (12-1), and Voorheesville beat Cambridge twice (11-6, 8-6).

A LOOK BACK

Griffin King tied the Niskayuna championship-game record with nine goals, six coming in a second-quarter surge, and Eoghan Sweeney won 22 faceoffs as the Silver Warriors topped Shenendehowa 20-9 for the 2018 Section II Class A flag.

In its third Class B title-game appearance in program history, Ballston Spa broke through in a big way by beating Queensbury 21-5 after previous setbacks against Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in 2016 and Niskayuna in 2013. Joe McDonald had six goals and seven points for the Scotties, Zac Schuette had four goals and four assists, and Sam Swingruber collected four goals and five points.

Hogan Fox delivered five goals, and Glens Falls defended its Class C title with a 17-14 win against South Glens Falls. The two teams tied the Section II championship-game record for combined goals.

Schuylerville earned its first Section II title since 2009 with a 12-11 Class D win over Greenwich, when Justin Carte scored four goals and Andrew Phillips notched three goals. Carte would finish the 2018 season with a Section II-record 109 goals.

LOOKING TO EXTEND STREAKS

Glens Falls appeared in the last nine Section II Class C championship games and won six of them. Greenwich reached a title game in each of the last five years and earned  Class C victories from 2014-16, and a Class D win in 2017 before its loss a year ago to Schuylerville.

SOMETHING ABOUT 16

Niskayuna made its 16th straight Section II title-game appearance in 2018, and claimed its 16th championship (Class A and B) in program history going back to 1994. The Silver Warriors are 16-0 entering this year's tournament with signature wins against Greenwich, Conn. (14-8),  Lakeland/Panas (17-14)  and Ballston Spa (19-11) and a No. 2 state ranking.
