SCHENECTADY -- Manhattan Exchange, the long-time restaurant on lower Union Street, is closing, owner Deb LaMalfa announced Monday. The restaurant's last day will be Sunday.

"After 16 years in this community, we bid you farewell," the owners posted to Facebook. "We have shared some of the most amazing times and some of the darkest with you all. You are and always will be the 'Manhattan Family.' On behalf of myself and my family, I thank you all for the support and loyalty."

Within hours, the Facebook post had generated well over 100 comments with people recalling good times at the restaurant and wishing the owners well. There was an implication in the post that someone else would be taking the building over.

"We look forward to the next chapter in our lives and I’m sure we will see you soon, and to the new entrepreneurs, we wish you all the success that we had and many years of happiness," LaMalfa wrote. "Visit us now until Sunday to say 'see you later.'"

Manhattan Exchange, which serves bar foods, sandwiches, burgers and salads, and features a seasonal outdoor patio, has been at 607 Union St. since the 1980s.
