Multi-platinum-selling California rockers Smash Mouth will headline Schenectady County SummerNight 2019 on Friday, July 12, the Schenectady County Legislature announced today.
The free, family-friendly block party will run from 5 to 10 p.m. in downtown Schenectady (on State Street between Broadway and Barrett Street and on the Jay Street Pedestrian Mall).
Smash Mouth rose to prominence after its 1999 release “Astrolounge,” which featured the hit single “All Star.” Smash Mouth provided much of the soundtrack music for the hit movie "Shrek."
In 2018, Smash Mouth had 151 million streams on Spotify. The band is compsed of Steve Harwell, Paul deLisle, Greg Camp, Randy Cooke and Mike “Hippy” Klooster.
“The Capital Region’s biggest summer block party just keeps getting bigger and better,” said Cathy Gatta, chair of the Legislature’s Committee on Tourism, Arts and Special Events.
“Smash Mouth continues our tradition of bringing big name talent to our rejuvenated downtown, and all for free. So we invite all of our residents and visitors from around the region to come to SummerNight for a fun-filled evening of great music, food, and fun.”
This year’s celebration will feature live musical performances, games and food. The GE Main Stage on State Street will feature the sounds of Schenectady County’s 2017 and 2018 Battle of the Bands winners Bendt and Hasty Page. Closing out the show will be Grammy-nominated and Smash Mouth, followed by the grand finale, Price Chopper & Market 32 fireworks.
Additional musical performances on the WEQX Stage will be Joe Mansman and the Midnight Revival Bank, Sly Fox and the Hustlers and Honey Suckle Vine.
A sand sculpture, a celebrity cannoli eating contest, kids activities and food from local restaurants and vendors will also be featured.
