High schools: Burnt Hills boys' lacrosse makes 'B' final

Caden LaPietro had five goals and an assist, and Ty McHerron added four goals and an assist Tuesday as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake edged Queensbury 13-12 in the Section II Class B boys’ lacrosse tournament semifinals.

In another Class B semifinal game, Lucas Bennice had five goals and an assist, Peyton Walsh scored four goals and two assists, Antonio Rossetti had three goals and an assist and Jake Koszelak had three goals to lift Ballston Spa over Columbia 22-4.

Liam Ferris scored eight goals to lead Bethlehem past Shenendehowa 15-5 in a Class A semifinal game. Shenendehowa was led by Eric Makhatadze with four goals.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Niskayuna defeated Ballston Spa 14-6 in a Section II Class B semifinal game behind Sydney McPatlon’s five goals and one assist and Cassidy Harvey’s three goals. Maddy Barnum scored three goals for Ballston Spa.

In a Class D semifinal, Johnstown beat Schuylerville 19-12, led by Taryn Ringer’s school-record 10 goals and two assists.

BASEBALL

In a Colonial Council game, Mohonasen defeated Schalmont 19-7 behind Jake Deguire’s two home runs, two singles and four RBIs.

In the Western Athletic Conference, Fort Plain defeated Schoharie 7-1, led by Brady Fureno with two doubles and a single.

In the Suburban Council, Ballston Spa beat Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 14-3 behind a grand slam from Zach LaBaff, a home run and a single from Jake Manderson, a home run from Donovan Rhoden and two doubles from Luke Gold. Sam Gardy homered for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.

La Salle beat Queensbury 14-11 in a non-league game led by Jon Weber with a home run, Dermot McDonough with two triples, Garrett Myers and Cole Gorleski each with a triple and Mark Finelli with four singles. Queensbury was led by Tyler Spaulding and Matt Chase with three singles each.

SOFTBALL

Scotia-Glenville shut out Amsterdam 7-0 in a Foothills Council game as Kelly Mayette had a pair of doubles, drove in two runs  and struck out 10 in a complete game. Brennan Jahn had a three-run double for Scotia-Glenville.

In the Suburban Council, Maddy Rifenberick doubled and singled to lead Troy past Guilderland 3-2. Alyssa Shearing had a double and a single for Guilderland.
Myaisha Kelly homered, doubled, and singled, Chloe Van Buren had a home run and two singles, Jaclyn Dyer homered, and Ciana Phillips had a pair of doubles to lead Colonie past Shaker 11-7. Lauren Massry doubled and singled, and Tia Snyder had two singles for Shaker.

In the Western Athletic Conference, Jillian Botch struck out 15 and pitched a no-hitter as Mayfield beat Berne-Knox-Westerlo 7-0. Taryn LaFontaine had a double and single for Mayfield.

Schoharie defeated Middleburgh 15-3, led by a home run for Amanda Stalker. Middleburgh was led by Ashley Ciafardo with a double and a single.

Mohonasen shut out Watervliet 9-0 in a Colonial Council game. Michela Arcate had a grand slam and three singles, while Mattison Muller, Kelly Herrick, and Natalie Blackstone each had two singles.

Voorheesville defeated Holy Names 13-1 as Olivia Richardson and Megan Romansky each had three singles, and Bailey Hildebrandt had two singles. Liv Caperale doubled and singled for Holy Names.

In the Wasaren League, Greenwich shut out New Lebanon 22-0 behind Carrissa Wardwell’s grand slam and two singles, Eliza Jordan with a triple, and two singles, and Faith Ingber with a triple and a double.
