SCOTIA — Freedom Park Scotia will open its 2019 Summer Concert Series on Wednesday, June 19, with the Scotia-Glenville High School Jazz Band & Jazz Combo.
The 2019 season offers free, family-friendly entertainment every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from June 19 through Aug. 24. Shows are rain or shine starting at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater located on Schonowee Avenue across from Collins Park. City Beat will perform on Friday, June 28, after a water ski show and before Jumpin’ Jack’s’ annual fireworks display.
Cathy Gatta, Freedom Park Foundation Board president said, “We are so excited for another great summer at the park. Each year as we put together our lineup, I am amazed at the talent we have in our area. Our foundation focuses on local musicians, as well as local businesses, and we are truly proud of that effort.”
The 2019 season welcomes 12 new bands to the Freedom Park stage, and also features themed shows such as “A Cappella Night” with newcomers Totally Pitchin’ from SUNY Schenectady, a “Salute To America” by The Joey Thomas Big Band, “Schenectady County Environment Day” with performance by bluegrass band Three Quarter North and a “60 Days Until Oktoberfest” celebration which includes The Bavarian Barons.
“We have a great season ahead of us including rock, country, jazz, classical and more,” said Gatta. “Special thanks go out to Jumpin’ Jack’s, our season sponsor and longtime supporter, as well as all of our show sponsors and media sponsors. Plus our Foundation Board of Directors who donate their time and talents to make Freedom Park such a wonderful experience.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring low chairs or a blanket to use within the outdoor amphitheater. A dance floor is located just below the stage welcoming fans of all ages. Parking is available at a short walking distance at the following locations: off Beach Road, Beukendaal Temple on Schonowee Avenue and the First Reformed Church on Route 50.
Freedom Park is a non-profit organization. Free shows are made possible through the support of local business sponsors, the Village of Scotia, Freedom Park memberships, grants from the Schenectady County Initiative Program and Town of Glenville, and audience donations.
