High schools: Hoosick Falls baseball advances

Sam Richard had two singles and a double to lead 13th-seeded Hoosick Falls to a 5-3 victory over fourth-seeded Granville in the first round of the Section II Class C baseball tournament Thursday.

Sam Wickenden had two singles and two RBI for Hoosick Falls. Junior Evan Webster got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the sixth inning to preserve the lead for Hoosick Falls. 

SOFTBALL 

Brianna Hubiak had two doubles, two runs, and two RBI to lead Mayfield to a 12-2 win over Rensselaer in the first round of the Section II Class C tournament.

Pitcher Jillian Botch had 11 strikeouts, a single and an RBI for Mayfield (13-5). Taryn LaFontaine had three singles and two RBI, and Anna Gates added a double and three RBI. Mayfield will travel to Hoosic Valley for a 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal game.

TRACK 

At the Section II Group 4 track and field championships at Stillwater, Stillwater secured the boys’ title with 116 points, and Greenwich earned the girls’ title with 176 points. 

In the boys’ competition, earning multiple wins as individuals were Greenwich Sophomore Connor Smith (100 and 200), Fonda-Fultonville senior Liam Viscosi (110 hurdles and 400 hurdles), and Stillwater senior Dylan Moran (long jump and triple jump). 

In the girls’ competition, earning multiple wins as individuals were Greenwich junior Quinn Collins (400 and 800), Stillwater freshman Kelly Moran (200 and triple jump), Greenwich junior Brynne Wright (3,000 and 2,000 steeplechase), Greenwich senior Lucia D’Acchille (100 hurdles and 400 hurdles), New Lebanon junior Allie Ryder (discus and shot put).
