It took two days, but Queensbury captured the Section II Section II Class B girls lacrosse championship Friday with a 16-12 victory over Niskayuna at Mohonasen High School.

The game started Thursday night, but was suspended with 14:24 left in the second half due to lightning.

Queensbury used runs of 5-0 and 3-0 to build a 12-8 halftime lead in the, those coming after Niskayuna began the contest with a pair of goals.

The 5-0 run made it 8-4, and the 3-0 run closed the half.

Jordan Bentley had six first-half goals for Queensbury, three in the 5-0 run and the final goal of the half with 18.9 seconds left.

Maddie Montgomery of Queensbury had five goals in the first half, two in the 5-0 run and two in the 3-0 run.

Brigid Duffy of Queensbury played a key role in the first half with her ability to win center draws as Queensbury had the advantage in possession time.

Bentley and Montgomery each finished with six goals.

BASEBALL

In a Section II Class A first-round game, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Scotia-Glenville 14-1 as Sam Gardy had a trio of doubles and a single, Derek Haughey homered and had two singles and Zach Scribner had three singles.

Ethan Duda’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Albany Academy a 7-6 victory over Troy. Duda also doubled. Derek Bender had three singles, and Danny Mosher added a double. Troy was led by Michael Kennedy with a home run and a single, Danny Rogers with a triple, and Austin Francis with a double.

In a Class B first-round game, Schalmont scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Ichabod Crane 3-2. Joe Carnevale homered, and Anthony Ruzzo had three singles for Schalmont.

Tamarac beat Saratoga Central Catholic 8-3 behind Tristan Nemjo’s three singles. Terel Tillman singled twice for Saratoga Central Catholic.

Ryan Yandow had three singles, and Jack Bodnar and Brady Eugair each had a double and a single to lead Schuylerville past Cobleskill-Richmondville 9-0.

Ryan Grimmick doubled and Jacob LaFountain struck out 12 as Mechanicville shut out Voorheesville 3-0.

Catskill edged Broadalbin-Perth 1-0 in nine innings, led by Dan Paquin’s double.

In a Class C first-round game, Fort Plain defeated Rennsselaer 10-0, led by Troy Butler’s three singles, and Taylor Gifford and Brady Funero with two singles. Elijah Foust doubled for Rensselaer.

Hoosic Valley beat Waterford-Halfmoon 3-1 led by Ethan Caiazza’s double and single, Justin Sawyer’s double, and Isaac Carlo’s two singles. Michael Talavera had a double and a single for Waterford-Halfmoon.

Canajoharie defeated Holy Trinity Pride 18-7.

SOFTBALL

Glens Falls defeated Fonda-Fultonville 15-1 in a Section II Class B game, led by Steph Meehan with a home run and three singles, Lilly Murray with a home run and a single and Lexi Cutter and Cassidy Harrington each with a double and a single.

Mechanicville defeated Hudson 9-1 as Alivia Wood and Erin Salvadore combined for a 14-strikeout performance. Destiny Farr had four hits, while Salvatore, Taylor Lescault, Adriana Patenaude and Allison Kenyon each had two hits.

Fort Plain/OESJ defeated Saratoga Central Catholic 12-4 in a Class C game behind a double and two singles from Michaela Stockwell, a double and a single each from Alexis Mumford and Jenna Reese, and two singles each from Bella Page and Fontana LaCoppola.

Alex Lathers and Mackenzie Bowerman each tripled as Canajoharie edged Maple Hill 2-1. Lizzie Brahm had two singles for Maple Hill.
