TOWN OF FLORIDA - An Amsterdam man was killed in a crash discovered Tuesday morning by a sheriff's deputy, Montgomery County Sheriff's officials said.

The crash happened off Fort Hunter Road, near Route 5S and was discovered by the deputy shortly after 7:30 a.m., officials said. The deputy went up to the vehicle and found the driver inside, unresponsive, officials said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered fatal injuries during the crash, officials said.

The sheriff's office identified the driver as James A. Wilkinson, 61, of Amsterdam.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Tuesday evening. A portion of Fort Hunter Road closed for the investigation has since reopened.

The Tribes Hill and Fort Hunter volunteer fire departments, the Montgomery County Emergency Services Director, GAVAC and other members of the sheriff's department responded.
