AMSTERDAM - A Brooklyn man has been arrested in an Amsterdam home-invasion burglary after a lengthy chase and with help from officers training in the area, police said.

Akeem K. Cordes, 33, of Brooklyn, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with first-degree burglary, as well as misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest, police said.

He is accused of breaking into a home on Pulaski Street in Amsterdam with a second person at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday while armed with a handgun, police said. Once inside, one of the suspects hit a resident with the gun.

The suspects fled, but police soon identified Cordes to be a suspect, police said.

Just before 1 p.m. Monday, police on an unrelated medical call spotted Cordes at the scene. Officers attempted to arrest him, but he pulled away and "led police on a lengthy foot pursuit," police said on Facebook.

Further officers responded and set up a perimeter. Cordes was taken into custody a short time later at a residence on Hibbard Street, police said.

Police received assistance from members of the Amsterdam Police and Montgomery County SWAT team. The team was already in the area on a scheduled training day and heard the call for the foot pursuit and responded, police said. State police also assisted.

Cordes was arraigned and ordered held on $100,000 bail.
