GlobalFoundries announces new GM for Saratoga County factory

MALTA -- GlobalFoundries announced a leadership change for its Malta computer chip factory Wednesday.

Peter Benyon, vice president and general manager at GlobalFoundries' Fab 7 in Singapore, will become general manager at Fab 8 in Malta, effective July 1, according to Ron Sampson, senior vice president and general manager of the company's U.S. operations.

Benyon will report to Ron Sampson, who will continue to be based at GlobalFoundries' Malta site and will be responsible for all U.S. fab operations.

Benyon has over 35 years of industry experience and has run the Singapore Fab 7 facility for a decade.

“GF has taken bold moves to accelerate the transformation of our business. We have optimized our global manufacturing footprint and aligned our portfolio to allow us to focus on our core competency — providing manufacturing services to enable our customers’ success through our differentiated technologies,” said Tom Caulfield, CEO at GlobalFoundries. “We have completed the transactional elements of our strategic transformation and are now focused on execution and our long-term growth strategy. Peter is highly capable and the ideal leader to partner with Ron and his team to take Fab 8 to the next level.”
