EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story contained the wrong day for the art fair. It will be held on Sunday, June 9.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday the Saratoga Springs arts district will come to life with the Beekman Street Art Fair. It has become a tradition over the last seven years, bringing artists and the community together.

“It’s grown and become more of a regional event,” said Cecilia Lockwood, the fair director and co-owner of Textile Studio.

Each year, several thousand people from around the area have come out to see the work by juried artists. Fifty artists are slated to exhibit their work this year, which includes painting, photography and lithographs. There will also be fine crafts like pottery, jewelry, woodworking and textiles.

“There aren’t a lot of galleries in Saratoga any more,” Lockwood said. The Art Fair gives local artists a chance to display their work in Spa City. However, the event isn’t only for artists, kids and adults of all ages are invited to partake in Maker Space activities.

“It’s more participatory [this year],” Lockwood said.

Attendees can also help create the Arts Spark Community Mystery Mural Project. In a paint-by-numbers style, people can pick a certain pixel or square to paint, helping to create the finished scene, which will be an image of an iconic Saratoga location.

Beyond art, there will be street performers from Circus Theatricks and Balloon Gal Jenny. From 2-4 p.m. under the Ash Street tent, Rick Bolton will host an open mic for young performers. The Blackouts will perform from 4-5 p.m.

There will also be food trucks from Fitzy’s Fork in the Road, Fresh Squeezed, High Noon, O’Pablos, Inc., Pies on Wheels, The Plaid Pancake and Smoothies on Wheels.

The arts district on Beekman from Grand Ave to West Circular will be closed to traffic. CDTA will offer free shuttle service to the fair, picking up riders at the Saratoga Casino Hotel parking lot (342 Jefferson St.) starting at 9 a.m. The buses will run every 10 minutes with the final shuttle returning at 5:10 p.m. For more information visit saratogaartdistrict.com
