CLIFTON PARK -- Shenendehowa High School seniors will officially graduate in just two weeks, but Jarred Dahlberg's priority right now is recovering from a serious fall last week that left him recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of Albany Medical Center.

Dahlberg suffered severe head injuries from a fall on June 2, according to a GoFundMe campaign started to cover some of the medical costs from his accident. According to the campaign, Dahlberg was flown via helicopter to Albany Medical Center, where he is currently stable in the ICU with several facial fractures that will require surgery.

Dahlberg's family could not be reached for comment on Monday, but the most recent update concerning his condition, posted Sunday, said that he was in good spirits and was coming closer to being cleared for surgery, which would be the first step in his overall healing process.

Dahlberg turned 18 while in the hospital just a few days ago, and his fall came just a day after Shen's senior prom. He was, according to the campaign, a United States Marine Corps recruit.

"While we might not be celebrating with a big dinner or party, we are celebrating that he is still here with us, when he so easily could not have been. Happy Birthday, Jarred! We love you and are pulling for you every second," read a family message posted on Dahlberg's GoFundMe page.

The GoFundMe page is seeking $50,000; over $20,000 has been raised in the last week. The outpouring of support for Dahlberg was almost immediate after the accident.

Hundreds of messages from well-wishers have been posted on the page, as well as more personal messages from friends of Dahlberg who know him through school, sports or friends of his family.

Further fundraising is also being conducted by a group of Dahlberg's peers.

Shirts reading "Jarred's Road To Recovery" are being sold for $25 each online, and $680 has been raised by the shirt fundraiser. Bracelets that read "Jarred Strong" and "RoadToRecovery" are also being sold.

"Jarred Dahlberg is a great and caring friend to everyone he meets. He always knows how to light up a room and make everyone laugh. By buying a shirt you can help ease the stress and pain of Jarred and his family," read a post on the t-shirt campaign website. All proceeds will be going to help pay for Dahlberg's medical bills.

It is unclear how Dahlberg suffered his injuries, and it is unclear if police are investigating the conditions of his fall. Representatives from the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department did not return requests for comment on the incident.
