SCHENECTADY - City police are warning of a “noticeable increase” in items being taken from cars in the city.

The thefts have occurred over recent nights and have centered around Van Vranken Avenue and side streets north of Nott Street, police said on Facebook.

The thefts have gone beyond unlocked cars to broken windows to take visible items, police said.

Police asked residents to take extra precautions as a result.

“Please check to make sure your vehicle is locked and anything of value is removed, as we have seen car windows broken to steal items which were in plain sight,” police wrote.

The department has increased patrols as a result.

Anyone who sees any suspicious activity, especially during overnight hours, should contact police at 518-630-0911.
