Capital Region jobless rate 3.2% in May

Capital Region jobless rate 3.2% in May

ALBANY — The unemployment rate in the Capital Region was 3.2% in May, down from 3.4% in the same month a year ago.

The state Department of Labor on Tuesday released its May 2019 jobless estimates for counties and regions statewide. The Albany-Schenectady-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area ties for lowest among metro areas in the state and also was slightly lower than the nation as a whole.

Statewide, the jobless rate ranged from 2.8% in Columbia County to 4.9% in St. Lawrence County. Saratoga County was second-lowest in the state at 3.0%. 

Meanwhile, the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metro had 475,800 non-agricultural jobs in May 2019, 2,000 more than in May 2018.
