SCHENECTADY - The man taken into custody after a Monday shots fired-prompted standoff in Schenectady is being held on a warrant, police said Tuesday.
No charges have been filed against the man related to the shots fired call from the city's Vale neighborhood that prompted the standoff on Union Street or the standoff itself.
Both remain under investigation, police said. No injuries were reported throughout.
Police confirmed the identity of the man taken into custody as Christian Fernandez, 21, of Union Street. He is listed as being accused of failing to appear in court on a previous case in November, records show. Further details on that were not available Tuesday.
The department's Special Operations Squad went in and took Fernandez into custody at 1330 Union St. just before 3 p.m. Monday after trying to get him to come out on his own.
Police converged on the Union Street address quickly after an 11:30 a.m. shots fired call at Victory Avenue and Catherine Street in the city's Vale neighborhood.
Officers in the area heard the shots and quickly confirmed that shots had been fired, police said said. Leads send officers to 1330 Union St. with information that the suspect may be in or around there.
Police then closed a section of Union near the apartment building and attempted to get the suspect to come out. The stretch of road was shut down for much of the afternoon.
