ALBANY — Strong ticket sales in the first half of 2019 have gained the Times Union Center a high ranking among a national list of venues.
Albany County, which owns the venue, said Tuesday the TU Center placed No. 52 on Pollstar’s Top 200 Arena Venues worldwide. Some 190,769 tickets have been sold to events at the facility so far this year, a larger number than in previous years.
The newly renovated arena, which is managed for the county by SMG, produced a net income of $1.64 million through May. That money supported general fund spending by the county.
County Executive Daniel McCoy said in a news release that the county’s investment in the TU Center also was an investment in downtown Albany. “Our arena has steadily risen through this list over the years, and with even more great musical acts and sporting events like the Aurora Games ahead, I’m looking forward to breaking into the Top 50 by year’s end.”
