CAROGA - The town's highway superintendent has been arrested, accused of submitting a false insurance claim, state police said Tuesday.
Steve Putman, 63, faces one count of fourth-degree insurance fraud, a felony, and official misconduct, a misdemeanor.
Putman is accused of taking damaged parts off of one town truck and putting them on another truck, state police said. He then submitted a false claim to the town's insurance company to have the truck repaired, troopers said.
The investigation began via a request from the Caroga Town Board and the town's attorney, state police said.
Putman was issued an appearance ticket and released to appear in Caroga court next month.
