SCHOHARIE - A Schoharie County mother faces a child endangerment count after troopers received a report of a 1-month-old child being shaken, state police said.

A state police release did not address the condition of the child, but no charges related to injuries were filed.

Kayla M. Smith, 23, of Central Bridge, was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

The investigation began Tuesday afternoon after troopers received the report of the infant being shaken by his mother. Arriving troopers spoke with Department of Social Services case workers regarding the report and also interviewed Smith, state police said.

Troopers then charged Smith with the misdemeanor.

Further details were unavailable late Wednesday afternoon.

Smith was arraigned and released to return to court later.
