GREAT SACANDAGA LAKE - Divers Monday recovered the body of the Great Sacandaga Lake boater missing since Saturday night, state police said.

Troopers later identified the man as Major L. Adams, of Saratoga Springs.

Searchers found Adams' body at about 10:50 a.m. Monday, state police said.

The search began after state police responded to the area of the Northampton State Campground just before 9 p.m. Saturday for a report of a missing boater.

The boater was swimming in the lake off of a boat in the area of the campground when the boater had difficulty swimming and went underwater, state police said.

The state police Underwater Recovery Team responded to the area and searched much of Sunday. They were assisted by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, Fulton County Sheriff's Office, Saratoga County Sheriff's Office and multiple fire departments.

The search continued through the day Sunday and into Monday, when the boater’s body was recovered.

The search closed the Northampton boat launch Sunday and boaters were asked to avoid the area as the divers worked.
