COLONIE — Albany County Airport Authority CEO John A. O’Donnell on Monday announced his retirement after 23 years with the authority.
O’Donnell, a civil engineer, joined the authority in 1996 as director of development to manage and direct a $200 million expansion project. He was named chief operating officer in 1999 and chief executive officer in 2003.
Several other major projects were conceived and completed during his tenure, and a $42 million expansion is underway now.
The authority board asked him to remain CEO while a nationwide search for a successor is begun, in the next few months.
O’Donnell plans to travel and spend time with his family after his departure.
