In celebration of The Daily Gazette's 125th anniversary, the newspaper will publish newsworthy items from past editions and past decades.

On August 10

1921: The state lauds the Saratoga County Almshouse in Ballston Spa for improvements to cow and horse stables and the addition of a fire escape but says the home lacks sufficient water power to fight fires.

1948: Because of a wartime lack of manpower and construction supplies, completion of the 486-mile state Thruway is delayed two years, to a target date of 1953.

1961: Seventeen-year-old Pete Famino of Schenectady wins the state Junior Golf Championship at the Troy Country Club.
