Editor's Note: Dr. Dominick Mele—a pediatrician whose medical career in Schenectady lasted from the late 1940s until 2000—died July 26.

Mele, who lived at Kingsway Community, would have turned 105 in November.

The Daily Gazette is re-printing an article from November 2014, as Mele approached his 100th birthday. At the time, the congenial Mele said he was "negotiating" with God. He wanted two more years with family and friends.

God must have decided in the doctor's favor: Mele lived nearly another five years after celebrating his century mark birthday.

A full obituary is expected soon.

Here's the original story.
